Overview

StepDex (“the App”) is a pedometer-based game that hatches Pokemon eggs using your real step count. Your privacy is important to us. This Privacy Policy explains what data the App accesses, how it is used, and your rights.

Data We Access

HealthKit Data (Step Count)

  • The App reads your step count data from Apple HealthKit to track your walking progress and hatch Pokemon eggs.
  • Step count data is used only within the App to calculate egg hatching progress.
  • Step count data is never stored on external servers, shared with third parties, or transmitted off your device.
  • The App does not write any data to HealthKit.

Pokemon Data (PokeAPI)

  • The App fetches Pokemon information (names, sprites, species data) from the public PokeAPI (https://pokeapi.co).
  • These requests are standard HTTPS GET requests and do not include any personal information.
  • Fetched Pokemon data is cached locally on your device to reduce network requests, as required by PokeAPI's fair use policy.

Pokemon Cry Audio

  • The App downloads Pokemon cry audio files from publicly available sources for playback within the App.
  • No personal data is included in these requests.

Data Stored on Your Device

The App stores the following data locally on your device only:

  • Game state: Your current egg, hatched Pokemon collection, nicknames, and onboarding status. Stored as a JSON file in the App's private documents directory.
  • Cached API data: Pokemon data, sprite images, and audio files cached in the App's cache directory to improve performance and reduce network usage.

This data is:

  • Stored only on your device
  • Not transmitted to any server
  • Not shared with any third party
  • Deleted when you uninstall the App

Data We Do NOT Collect

StepDex does not collect, store, or transmit:

  • Personal identification information (name, email, phone number)
  • Location data
  • Device identifiers or advertising IDs
  • Analytics or usage tracking data
  • Crash reports
  • Any data to remote servers or cloud services

No Accounts Required

StepDex does not require you to create an account, sign in, or provide any personal information to use the App.

No Third-Party Analytics or Advertising

StepDex contains:

  • No advertising of any kind
  • No third-party analytics SDKs (no Firebase, no Amplitude, no Mixpanel, etc.)
  • No tracking pixels or similar technologies

Children's Privacy

StepDex does not knowingly collect any personal information from children. The App does not require any personal data to function and is suitable for users of all ages.

Data Retention

All data is stored locally on your device. To delete all App data, simply uninstall StepDex from your device. You can also revoke HealthKit access at any time through your device's Settings > Health > Data Access & Devices.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Revoke HealthKit access at any time via iOS Settings
  • Delete all App data by uninstalling the App
  • Contact us with any privacy concerns

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected by updating the “Last Updated” date at the top of this document.
